  1. I think this would be a good method to use because you want the cover to match the style of music.

    1. I agree that listening to music will bring out your style and match what the music is saying.

  2. 1.The cover can convey colors and emotions that you need a visual to see. It's a cool thing to listen to the music then draw what you feel, essentially showing what you feel

2.I think it would because it give show me what colors to use. If it a darker song a blue or purple would work, but if I were to listen to of a more up beat song some reds or yellow could be used. This just us another tool to get your design flowing

    1. I agree the sense of hearing can be conveyed by slightly listening to the music first.

  4. I think the process of listening to music before drawing is a great way to match the CD cover to the style of music. The cover has to match the style of music or no one would be interested in listening to it. If a rock band had flowers on its CD cover people would not think it is a rock band. This process is a great idea to use in order to match the style of music to the cover of the CD.

I think this would be useful in planning my project because it would start me on the right track to creating the CD cover. I have a hard time starting somewhere so I think this method will help me get started on this project

    1. Yes listening and then designing helps convey what the musics style is.

    2. The point you made about the rock band having flowers on their cover, is a great example of why you should listen to the music before crating the cover.

    3. I agree with how listening to music helps create the music style in design. All music styles have a specific unique thing about them that is imagined when listening to it.

  5. Listening to the music then making a design based off what you hear is a very effective technique. Based on what you think in your mind when listening to music then incorporating it into the design of the CD cover will not only express the style but also the music itself.

    2. I also agree, good job at phrasing that.

    3. Absolutely, and I think it's just as important to show potential listeners what they're in for as well as catching their attention.

    4. I agree, you are great at explaining it bud!

  6. 1. I think that listening to different types of music can influence your work. If you were to listen to something in the Pop genre, then you would most likely be using either neon or other vibrant colors. But if you were to listen to Rap, then you would use more traditional colors, such as reds or blues.

    2. I think that this would be useful, because it requires you to think about what your design is going to be.

    1. Maybe not even requiring you to think about it, but giving you a different perspective on what you're doing.

    2. Agreed music genres can have different artistic qualities. But classic rock is better then rap or pop

  7. I think this method is very useful for that project. Listening to the music gives you a feel of the style and allows you to know what colors, and designs to make. Listening to the music could also be bad if you interpret the music poorly and don't use the correct elements on your cover.

I definitely think this would be useful in our project because if we listen to the music we will get a better sense of what we need to make our cover.

    2. I agree that it will give us a better sense while designing. Interesting how it could be a negative thing when not listening the the right music. I will have to make sure to keep that in mind.

    3. I agree with you, Mason. I like the idea that you can take the sound and "feeling" of the music and put it into colors, designs, etc.

    4. Interesting point on misinterpreting music. Perhaps mood is not always able to be captured by visualization.

    5. This is actually deemed to be true to me. It's can be a challenge on if you know what the song is about and how to interpret it, or not even.

  8. I think that this would be very helpful because you would be able to put the feel and the emotions of the music into the cover. You would also be able to incorporate certain pictures that have to do with the lyrics into the cover.

  9. The process is very cool how it can impact your work at a subconscious level. It can be very helpful when creating pieces of work.
I think it is useful for a project because if you know you are aiming for a certain style design, you can listen to a music similar to it. It impacts the result tremendously.

  10. I believe that listening to music while making it is a very good method for something like this. It will help you convey what the album will sound like on the cover. It may help you decide what to use for colors, fonts, etc. It would help me on our project, because it gives me kind of an idea of how I am going to design the cover. So, I do believe this is a good way to go about this project.

  11. What do you think about the process of listening to music, then drawing what you think music might look like to use in the design?
I think that when you listen to music you get all the feelings of it so you can create an accurate view of it and on yourself.
Do you think this method would be useful in the planning of your project? Explain why or why not.
Yes, when you are planning the project you need just as much creativity as when you are creating it. This I feel will put out the best product.

  13. I think that listening to the music you're creating the cover art for is important in order to capture the mood that the music artist is trying to evoke and in turn give the listener a "preview" of the music as well as capturing their eye.

    1. Right, because if you're just designing the case and don't even know what the music sounds like how are you gonna show the audience what the first impression of the music will look like?

  17. I think that listening to the music first would at least put some kind of image in your head, which would then allow for designs to pour out. It would be useful, because I think most teens can relate to at least some kind of music.

  18. Listening to music, when I think about it, completely varies, if you listen to harder rock, the image that might come to mind is a thunderstorm. For classical music, it might be a light drizzle.

As for this design, my first guess would be techno music, the way it pops out at me, the font.

Music may definitely affect the way I design my CD cover, to get an idea of this grunge type design, I would listen to a more, darker, style of music to get the full image in my mind.

From my own eyes, listening to music can be or will not be a really helpful in showing expressions and your ideas on what to draw about; it is different for everyone. However, for me, I believe it might be a reliable way to help you start thinking/drawing your ideas about what the music could be about. For example, going off of what Jacob Cass, a graphic designer, it depends on what the song genre is, including what would most likely match the song/genre.

I belive that listening to music online and then drawing with the beliefs discovered by the music, I think it would help influence your design greatly, as the sorrow from the music could flow into your art. or, the happiness.

I would say no because many people have different opinions on music, and their sounds may be different to others. A person may finds rock soothing, while many others find it upbeat, loud, or even annoying. Knowing this I don't think basing the cover off of a calm sky would match up. I think a cover should be about the lyrics more.

When using music as your inspiration when creating a CD cover, I think listening to music could inspire a look based upon the sound as well as the mood it brings to you. The mood could affect the color sequences you use, or the brightness. This can be useful in influencing my project, because the look needs to project what kind of sound the music has.

  24. I think the process is very interesting and makes a lot of sense. If you're doing a package that's supposed to represent the music it's just good sense to draw what you think it would sound like first. I think it would be incredibly useful planning the project as it gives a good starting point for designing the cover.

  31. I think if your gonna listen to music for inspiration it would create an image. It would have to depend on the type of music you're listening though. If your listening to rap, your design would be luxury-like. If your listening to heavy metal, your design would look heavy and hardcore. It all depends on what you listen to.
